Types of research

 Quantitative Data = Statistics 
Qualitative Human Research = interviews, surveys and observations.
Primary Data = Research you have personally conducted.
Secondary Data = Existing research that other people have produced

 Research I have used ...

 Quantitative Date - I used the internet to research film statistics such as how much they made at the box office (Secondary Data)

 Qualitative- I did a survey including 3 main but basic questions to research what my target audience (Primary Data).
Throughout my research, I have been watching many different types of sub-genres of the horror genre such as 'The Exorcist', 'Paranormal activity', 'Insidious' & 'Get Out'. This has helped me decide on which film sub-genre I was going to portray and to study those specific film conventions. 

 Advantages of watching Horror Films...
  1. Gives you a good idea about the significant events that may occur is numerous films
  2. Gain inspiration and ideas
  3. Get an understanding about music, mis-en-scene & costumes
  4. Different Angles and Shots used

Practise Filming

For the short film, I didn't want to just jump into the filming process without having some sort of practise and to work around with the location (lighting & props) - This allowed me to gain some clips that I can potentially use within the film as well as having some scenes where I can replicate again in the real filming. By incorporating a practise run of filming for the short film, after collecting all clips and looking back, there are scenes that don't particularly fit together that need clips to lead into it.  This has then allowed me to plan out what shots and different camera angles I can use within clips as preparation for the real short film filming. This prep I feel helps analyse where certain faults can occur within the real filming can be prevented before filming. Supernatural Conventions

Settings Normally set within a suburban or very isolated location (eg: a large residential building) This promotes fear of the unknown and unwanted and intruding of personal space. Costumes The main protagonist is likely to wear casual costuming in order to give a strong sense of normality within the supernatural films. As horrors progress, we see these main characters start to look flustered, less tidy or even have blood upon their bodies to signify the horror conventions (blood meaning death). Light & Sound Profile lighting is used throughout to create a sinister look on a character, along with back lighting to display shadows and events in silhouette form. The under lighting is normally used within scenes where characters are in need of help and and portraying desperation. Mark Scheme

Level 4 - Excellent (32-40 marks) Shooting material -  Sophisticated idea which works; shows an excellent understanding of the genre; every shot and angle has been planned; artistic framing; variety of shot, movement and angles. Mise - En - Scene -  A well selected location(s); use of signifiers which are apparent to the viewer. Editing - Excellent & professional techniques applied; a wide variety used but these are always purposeful. The narrative is clear to the viewer - it may be ambiguous but it is clear this is the case. Sound - Appropriate; well planned and may even help tell the story. Possibly experiemental in some way. Level 3 - Proficient (24-31 marks) Shooting material -  Good, simple idea which works; good understanding of genre; a variety of shots and angles; some purposeful framing Mise - En - Scene -  Location appropriate for film, costume, colours & props work well.
