In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop Or Challenge Forms & Conventions Of Real Media Products?
Within my Short film 'The Barn', I decided to stay within the normal conventions of a horror film. This was so then i could definitely convey to the audience that my film was of the horror genre. I used the normal conventions of fright, panic, to cause a dread alarm to captivate and entertain the audience in a liberating experience. I didn't want to create a gory type of horror with fake blood and cuts, this was partly due to the fact that as i'm not skilled in that field, they may not look realistic. This is turn could make my film comical due to the fake cuts.
I wanted to convey the supernatural genre throughout my film. I replicated close up views of the 'ghost just like the Conjuring 3 with the nun figure. This was to create fear to the audience as the close up shot lets them see their facial appearance (pale, lifeless skin)
I used the normal conventional of a subernatuural horror - this was where the location where the film is set, is very dark and almost lifeless. I wanted to use this type of location to create a scary set up to make my film seem much more professional. i also used the Conjuring series example for my location - this was based upon that the 3rd movie was a very old and abandoned house just like the barn that I filmed in.
When producing my film, I wanted to create jump scares and to make them seem realistic. I used the type of scene also found in the Conjuring. This was due to the fact that there was no sound from the ghost (nun) - there was just a scream from the character instead. This was conveyed within the running away scene where as she turns the corner from the stairs, a figure is stood in the darkness.
I also developed the conventions of a horror into my film poster. I based my design quite like 'The Poltergeist' - This was because I liked how there was a strict black and white colour scheme as well as the sparse set up with lack of writing and detail which I really liked. I made sure when I was editing my photo of the stairs, there was a lot of black patches, especially at the bottom of the stairs to suggest the feeling that you don't know whats down there.
