My Chosen Horror Genre

Supernatural horror sub genre is the type of bracket I want to focus on when producing a short horror film for this years  project. The use of the demonic and ghostly characters within the film and production is something that really draws this type of genre to me. I would really like to try within my horror film some of the conventions used within the supernatural movies just like 'The Conguring' and 'The Conguring 2'. The use of make up, costume and music within the supernatural films gives an amazing set up.

Make up/Costume

Image result for demonic make upThe use of this nun costume almost makes the character seem very innocent as the black and white outfit is worn typically by nuns who is a member of a religious community of women, typically one living under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. The use of the make up of the dark/black colours around the eyes as well as around the cracks seen on the face makes that demon itself seem evil and unhuman. The supernatural use of eye contacts also makes it very obvious to the audience that this character within the movie is going to be the 'enemy'. The use of this extra features creates the whole scene and demonic effect through the use of not speech, but the facial expressions which is complimented with the facial make up used. This type of charcter and make up, as well as costume can be found within the movie series 'Conjuring' as well as 'Conjuring 2'.

Music

The use of this dis-functional and very simplistic tune to a children's toy makes it almost contradict the scary movie and replace it with something as innocent as a child. The way that none of the songs end, but all are merged together gives a sense of uncertainty, this is mainly due to the unpredictable increase and decrease in sounds and the music to make the movie seem very unpredictable. By merging the sweet simplistic sound of a child's toy with a very loud combination of other music really give an edge to the overall film.

Comments

  1. I watch horror movies since I was a teenager and I switched from non-visible horror like >> The Haunting of Hill House to other supernatural movies to the classic slashers to 90s teen horror - to Asian horror and I am still very open to movies, I had never watched before...
