Double Page Spread

When producing my Double Page Spread for my film, I used the online program called Canva. It allowed me to search for different layouts, shapes, frames as well as allowing me to upload my own personal photos that I wanted to use. Firstly I searched through all the magazine layouts to find the right format that I wanted. I came across this unique looking magazine cover with transparent triangles over the top of the title. This type of layout let me play around with the location of the triangles and the texts so then I could use the space efficiently. After adding the feature photo of the barn door key hole, I decided that my colour scheme was going to be grey scale - this was also due to the fact that my film was very dark also so I wanted to make sure that there was continuity throughout my production process. After agreeing on the colour scheme, I then transported this into the designing of my double page spread. I changed the colours of the 3 triangles (1 x Black, 1 x Grey & 1 x Dark Grey) - When they all over lapped, I really liked the effect that it made with the Title. When choosing the font of my title, I wanted to make sure that it wasn't too basic and it complemented with style of horror.
In the end I decided to use the font called 'Creepster' - It was a sort of bold dripping letters which I thought looked like dripping blood. The colour of the Font (Black) looked really striking in front of the grey triangles. I also selected the font called 'Waterlily' - I thought this was a very distorted style and looked really good with the 'Creepster' font also. After adding and taking away film clipart from this part of the spread, I decided to leave it as it was. This was partly due to the fact that I didnt want it to look too busy, but also because other magazines normally leave one of the spreads quite pain & make the other side a lot more in depth.

When looking at the layouts for the second spread, I wanted to choose one that had a lot more room where I could add writing as well as photos from the movie to give the audience an insight into what my movie would contain. At first I wanted to include Polaroid frames on the spread which included significant scenes from the film. After playing around with the layout, I ended up with a very mix match of colours which didn't work well with my colour scheme.
I then went on to looking at different frames that I could use to put a picture in. I stumbled across a window shaped frame which I then reduced down the transparency to match my colour scheme.

I added this rectangle border which I also used behind the door again. This overlap of the two rectangles was a way of trying to rectify the barn being boarded up with planks of wood. I also increased the transparency a lot more than the white/light grey, this was down to the fact that the colour was a lot darker grey which meant that it was really hard to see the writing. I liked using this shape as it gave a very rustic and uneven feel to the magazine, this was due to the bumps and cracks in it.

When I was including different shapes and frames to my spread, I wanted to try and make reference to my 'slogan' by creating a so called door. As there wasn't any door shapes, I had to use a rectangle type of shape to signify this. I made sure that I included a photo of the ghost from within the film. I used a very high transparency on the photo so then it would spoil the whole story of the film. I thought this gave a little hint into what sort of horror genre my short film would be.
As all films have a little slogan within their film production, when I was designing my front cover, I couldn't think of a unique sentence that made the audience start thinking. So instead of making this bold, I used a light grey colour for the 'Mystery behind the closed door-'. I also increase the transparency also so then it was as if you'd have to look really closely to read it. The use of the '-' (slash) within this slogan was a way of suggesting that there was more than just a mystery behind the door. A 'slash' (-) is just an easy way of saying "and". By using this, the and as a cliffhanger type feeling to the audience which may persuade them to then watch the film to find out what the 'and' was.
