Inter & Outer Forms & Locations of a Horror
Some Conventions Used Within A Normal Horror Film
Include photos of locations used - why used? & what does it give the effect?

The photo to the right shows a very isolated house that doesn't look in the best condition. The use of an abandoned house just like this one creates a tension just on its own. The use of the word 'abandoned' suggests no life or use which makes the audience question...'Why would you go in?' OR 'What if something is inside?'...These questions make the audience feel on edge if the protagonist enters the house.
The overall look of this house looks edgy and scary, the windows without light also gives a sense of something that doesn't want to be found is hiding in there.
A lot of horror films are started with slow panning within a gloomy woods/forest, just like the picture on the right. This is used to set the scene for the audience to basically explain that where ever they end up, it will be a very set back and isolated place/building, this is due to the over grown vines and dead trees to show that there is no life beyond this wood. The path in the photos suggests an almost invitation to the end of the path, the curvy path way encourages you to carry on...as if there is life at the end of the path.
